We were engaged as designers of those aspects of the structure below bridge deck, including the bridge piers and piled foundations. We also designed the complex pier temporary works for support of the erection gantry. The support system was secured to the piers using friction only as there was no room available at ground level. A pre-stressed 3-span bridge. This bridge was a replacement for the old trussed arch bridge. An innovative solution was devised using old temporary piers in the river allowing the lateral slide of the old bridge to act as a temporary crossing for traffic. Appointed as sub-consultants to the main bridge designers. We assisted with the design of the erection gantry. This gantry was required to negotiate severe vertical and horizontal curvatures and consequently had an elaborate system of vertical jacking and lateral sliding adjustments. We were appointed as permanent works designers for the entire bridge. This was developed in conjunction with the Contractor and resulted in an innovative Integral bridge design with no movement joints. Sheet piled abutment foundations carried vertical load, integral with composite plate girder bridge beams and deck. See more.
