Richter Associates has extensive experience of all aspects of design and refurbishment associated with theatres. This extends from the design of complete new theatre buildings, utilising our association with specialist architectural practices, through to backstage design and scenery design.
We began our long association with the world of theatres and theatre management groups in 1991, under a commission to carry out a full structural assessment of the Drum Revolve at the Royal National Theatre.
The stage had a long history of problems and the six month study examined every aspect of the stage. The findings of our report identified the causes of the problems and specified the necessary remedial works, which were subsequently adopted. Since that time we have been retained as the consultant structural engineers at the Royal National Theatre. Our practice has since been involved with many prestigious theatres both in this country and abroad. In the UK these include the Royal National Theatre, the Royal Shakespeare Theatre, Stratford, The Dominion Theatre London, The Alhambra
Dunfermline and abroad the National Centre for the Performing Arts Mumbai. We have a unique understanding of the way theatres work and the needs of the people working in theatres. This understanding enables us to develop innovative design solutions which are sympathetic to the practical and specific needs of theatres and theatre companies.
